Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To discuss the indication, efficacy and safety of endoscopic surgery in the management of nasal skullbase neoplasms. METHODS:Nineteen patients with nasal skullbase neoplasms were treated with endoscopic sinus surgery from January 2001 to January 2008. The neoplasms included sinus inverted papilloma (6 cases), pituitary adenoma (6 cases), sinus osteofibroma (3 cases), olfactory neuroblastoma(2 cases), and residue of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after radiotherapy (2 cases). Pathological confirmation was performed postoperatively. All the patients except those with NPC received postoperativel radiotherapy. RESULTS :The neoplasms were excised in all cases. Cerebrospinal fluid leakage occurred in 3 cases and got successful management with middle turbinate. All the cases were followed up 2 to 4 years with no recurrence. CONCLUSION:If appropriate indication is selected, the nasal skullbase neoplasm can be well managed with endoscopic sinus surgery.
