Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of AEG1 protein and its clinical significance in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods Western blot was used for detecting the expression of AEG1 protein in 4 NPC cell lines, 21 specimens of normal nasopharyngeal epithelium and 47 of NPC. Results The expression level of AEG1 protein was significantly upregulated in both NPC cell lines and NPC specimens. Moreover, the expression of AEG1 protein was positively correlated to EB virus infection (P=0.046), T stage (P=0.001), clinical stage (P=0.001) and cervical lymph node metastasis (P=0.010). Conclusion AEG-1 protein may play a significant role in the initiation and progression of NPC.
