ObjectiveTo investigate the expression of Semaphporin 3D in laryngeal cancer tissue and its relationship with clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of patients.MethodsSixtyone laryngeal cancer tissues and normal tissues adjacent to carcinoma were obtained from January 2015 to December 2016. Immunohistochemistry SP staining was used to detect the expression of Semaphporin 3D. The relationships of its expression with clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis were analyzed.ResultsImmunohistochemistry SP method showed that SEMA3D expression was significantly lower in laryngeal cancer tissue than in normal tissue adjacent to carcinoma(P＜0．05). The expression of SEMA3D was closely related to clinical stage and lymph node metastasis(P＜0. 05). KaplanMeier survival analysis showed that SEMA3D expression was correlated with patient survival(P＜0.001). Univariate Logrank test showed that smoking, clincial staging, lymphnode metastasis and expression of SEMA3D were associated with the prognosis of patients. Multivariate Coxregression analysis further showed that the low expression of SEMA3D was an independent risk factor affecting the prognosis of laryngeal cancer.ConclusionsLow expression of SEMA3D protein is an independent risk factor for the prognosis of laryngeal cancer. Laryngeal cancer patients with positive SEMA3D expression show better prognosis than those with negative SEMA3D expression, which indicates that SEMA3D may be a potential biomarker for the prediction of prognosis in patients with laryngeal cancer.
