Objective: To investigate the safety and effectiveness of nasal stent in clinical application by comparing and observing the clinical effect and comfort of nasal stent and merocel sponge applied in nasal septoplasty. Methods: 56 patients with nasal septal deviation were selected and randomly divided into nasal stent group (experimental group, 26 cases) and merocel sponge group (control group, 30 cases) according to the packing method. The hemostasis effection, comfort and complications of the two groups were compared during the packing period. Results: The effective rate of the experimental group was 69%, and that of the control group was 60%, with no statistically significant difference (X2 =0.517, P=0.472). The mean postoperative VAS scores of the experimental group were all lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). No septal perforation, septal hematoma and infection were found in the experimental group and the control group. Conclusion: Nasal stent is safe and effective as a new packing method after nasal septal correction. It is more comfortable than expansive sponge packing, and can be further applied in clinical practice.
