Odontogenic sinusitis (OS) has a high prevalence, especially in a high proportion of unilateral sinus lesions. It is mostly caused by periodontal disease, dental treatment and dental implants, which are manifested as the main characteristics of foul smelling in nasal cavity, white emulsion-like purulence in the middle meatus and maxillary dental pathology on CT. Although OS is a well-known disease, it can not be accurately identified and properly managed in many patients due to lack of shared criteria in diagnosis and multidisciplinary cooperation in treatment, and dilemma of therapeutic strategies. Therefore, we reviewed the current situation and existing problems of OS from the seven aspects including definition, etiology, clinical presentations, image characteristics, diagnosis and management, so as to promote the standardization of OS treatment.
