Abstract:The eustachian tube connects the middle ear to the nasopharynx. The main function of the eustachian tube is to maintain the balance of air pressure between the middle ear and the nasopharynx, promote the discharge of secretions in the middle ear, and play a role in blocking and eliminating sound. Eustachian tube dysfuction can lead to aural fullness, tinnitus, hearing loss, even middle ear diseases such as secretory otitis media and cholesteatoma. But there is still a lack of the gold standard of examination and treatment. Balloon Eustachian tuboplasty has been available since 2010. The effectiveness and safety has been confirmed in a lot of studies. Therefore, the origin, principle, indications, surgical procedure, clinical application and complications of Balloon Eustachian tuboplasty are reviewed in this paper, in order to provide reference for clinical practice.
