The alar is an important subunit of nasal aesthetics, East Asian noses are often accompanied by flat, broad nasal alars, giving the nose an overall bloated, lackluster appearance. In the past, nasal alar aesthetics did not attract enough attention. In recent years, as people have become more demanding of the overall aesthetics of the nose, the importance of nasal alar aesthetics has been rekindled in people"s consciousness, and nasal alar-plasty has become an important sub-direction of rhinoplasty. The shape of the nose alar is shaped by reducing the size of the alar and correcting the receding nasal margins to achieve an overall harmonized and aesthetic nose. This article summarizes the progress of anatomical and aesthetic studies of the nose and summarizes the current rhinoplasty techniques.
